Virgin Atlantic - Flying Club Golf League

The Flying Club Swingers is an online golf league competition for Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club members.

Only Flying Club members can access the website and particapate in the competition (anyone can join by first registering as a Flying Club Member).

Flying Club members participate by creating a Player Profile and submitting scores from club competitions, corporate golf days, or by matchplay against other Flying Club members.

The players are awarded additional Bonus Points based on a variety of criteria, which involves sponsors such as Titleist, Hyatt Regency, Le Meridien, Hertz, and British Midlands.

In addition, players can submit funny photos for which they may be awarded Prizes.

The application is built with two interfaces, one for the Players and another for the website's administrators.

Features on the Player's Interface:

• Authentication system only allows registrations and participation from Virgin Atlantic's Frequent Flyers.
• Registration interface, which also allows players to upload images which are automatically resized to fit the profile page.
• Scoring system automatically detects "exceptional" scores, which are shown pending  verification by the administrators.
• Leaderboard rankings are automatically calculated, and positions are automatically re-arranged in real time.
• Community-building: players can use the website to contact each other and arrange match play.  No personal contact details are made available to other players.

The application is managed online by Milestone Event (Virgin Atlantic's event organiser).  The online Content Management system give the organisers full control of the competition:

• Score verification and validation -- Submitted scores are categorised based on formulas, so that exceptional scores can be verified and approved.
• Player administration:
• The organisers can check (and reject if necessary) images which are submitted by Players.  
• Players can be short-listed for Player of the Month awards.
• Bonus Point administration:
• New award categories can be created online. 
• Bonus Points are reviewed and awarded online.
